The distinguishing feature of a flexible office space is that it is non-restrictive. Furniture can be moved around, desks can be adjusted, small meeting areas are easily accessible – that sort of thing. Flexible office spaces allow employees to work in different areas of the office instead of being stuck at their desks or cubicles all day long. If employees need some quiet time to really focus on a certain task, they can move to a quiet corner or soundproofed meeting room to get their work done. Offering employees the freedom to move around is great for their health and motivates them to work more efficiently.
2. Collaborative furniture
Collaborative workspace furniture is one of many modern office design trends that is quickly catching on. Collaboration is an integral part of any company, and having furniture that encourages and facilitates it makes sense. There are many collaborative furniture items to choose from, including freestanding media units where employees can meet quickly and project their work onto a screen, acoustic pods where uninterrupted meetings can be held, and large meeting desks that are equipped with power outlets, task lighting, adjustable height options, and data sockets.
3. Biophilic design
Biophilic design is a design trend that focuses on the natural world. It’s no surprise that natural decor is making its way into modern offices. Bringing the outside in is a great way to create a calming and stress-free environment, which is why many office designers are incorporating natural elements in their designs. Large windows allow natural light to pour in, plants around the office create more clean air for employees to breathe in, organic colors, patterns and materials create a relaxed ambiance, and all of these work together to help reduce stress levels and increase focus and energy.
4. Integration of technology
There’s no denying that technology plays a primary role in modern offices. Everything is now done electronically, and offices need the proper equipment to keep up with technological advancements. A well-set-up office helps employees work smarter, faster, and way more efficiently. Many offices are now opting for laptops instead of desktops, giving their employees the freedom to work from anywhere. Since work has now become portable, offices need to adjust accordingly. There needs to be power outlets readily available around the office, video conferencing technology, screens for presentations, wireless charging stations, data ports, smartboards, and anything else that is necessary to facilitate smart working.
5. Comfortable work areas
Forcing employees to sit on uncomfortable chairs and desks eight hours a day just isn’t the recipe for success. If you want to create a space that fosters creativity and increases overall employee satisfaction, you need to make it more comfortable, even homey. As a designer, you should incorporate comfortable seating areas where employees can lounge on a sofa and get work done on their laptops. You can even create recreational areas where employees can take a break and play ping pong, video games, or even take a quick power nap.
